Burnout is more than just stress. It is the result of excessive exposure to unhealthy stress. It is more and more common every year to see burnout cases in the workplace. Stress affects health greatly, but burnout is far more dangerous, since it can ruin other areas of your life and even put your life at risk.
Some of the symtoms are feelings of irritability and anger, exhaustion, withdrawal from social engagements, inability to concentrate, reduction of productivity and quality of your work, lack of enthusiasm, sleep problems, physical pain, tendency to resort to alcohol and drugs as a coping mechanism, absentism, relationship problems and a sense of helplessness, among others.
The good news is that both the cause and the solution lie within ourselves. We get burnout in the first place due to unhealthy habits like being a perfectionist, and lack of healthy skills such as self-awareness and knowing how to say no. All of this things can be solved if you really want to and are willing to change your ways.
Learning relaxation techniques is simply not enough, neither is taking vacations, since you would always come back to the same stressors, to the same environment.
We can help you determine all the major sources of your stress, whether they are in your environment, your behaviors, a lack of healthy work skills, or even your system of beliefs and values. Then we prioritize on the sources that, if corrected, would have the maximum potential to solve most of your stress. We finally teach you the skills needed to deal with those situations in the future and the skills to have a more resilient nervous system.
The problem: A client once came to us with a burnout. He wasn’t able to sleep for weeks, he was irritable, aggressive at the office, exhausted and his health was in a poor state.
The solution: We found many causes of his stress. We focused on the main cause, which was a limiting belief he had about what would happen if he didn’t work as hard as he was. We made a plan to solve the problem. We also taught him relaxation techniques and designed a technique to help him sleep at night. Finally we programmed resourceful emotional states for him to activate when he needed them.
The result: After the first session he proved himself that the belief he hold was not real and that he had been creating most of his stress himself. The sleeping technique worked very well. All of this allowed him to be able to sleep correctly from the second night after the first sessions. From that moment on, we controlled his sleep quality for a period of 10 days and he reported sleeping well 9 out of the 10 nights. He loved learning time management skills and still uses them on his daily life.
I was not able to sleep at night. I was worried and overwhelmed with work duties. This caused an anxiety condition that was affecting my health and my mood.
Thanks to the NLP Coaching work with Juan, I managed to control and handle all the job duties, manage my time better and even be able to sleep again. Work was no longer taking control of my life.
I am a happy man today. I can handle my emotions better. I am not frustrated or have those bad moods anymore, and I’m having good results both at work and in my private life.
